This blended course (in-class and online) is registered with Project Management Institute (PMI) and is eligible for 45 Professional Development Units (PDUs). This course will introduce the principles of professional project management. It is designed to develop a fundamental understanding of project management knowledge, processes, tools and techniques applicable to all types of projects in various industries. The course content is based on the latest edition of the Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK®). All nine knowledge areas will be covered and reinforced with real-life examples, case studies and exercises.

This course is an introduction to Building Information Modeling and covers the basic principles of Revit Architecture Technology and the Building Information Modeling (BIM) approach. The Revit Architecture 2012 software on Windows operating system will be demonstrated with extensive hands-on experience in a computer lab. Topics will include: advantages of BIM, file types and formats, BIM file management, the Revit interface, 3D modeling, material properties, linking and constraints, families and components, conceptual massing modeling, design options, adding architectural elements to massing models, sloped roofs, plotting graphic views and schedules.

Participants will use Civil, Mechanical or Electrical AutoCAD Software to create, edit and understand engineering drawings.

Civil CADD (computer-aided design) covers the fundamental skills and standards for creating, editing and understanding engineering drawings using AutoCAD.

Electrical AutoCAD software prepares the participant for 2D Engineering drawings for Electrical Control Systems using established procedures and practices.

AutoCAD Mechanical teaches the fundamentals of creating and customizing a typical mechanical detail drawing.   

This course is an introduction to the Ontario Building code (OBC) 2012 and provides an overview of legal, house structure, plumbing, HVAC and small buildings codes and regulations. The course includes various components of the OBC module workbooks created by the Ontario Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing. The course will help students to develop their skills in searching codes and utilizing data to gain a better understanding of code requirements particularly with respect to construction and health and safety elements.

This online course provides students with core concepts and strategies to reduce the environmental impact of the built environment in Canada. The course highlights how these core concepts and strategies can be used in various LEED rating systems. It will provide an introductory level of familiarity with the LEED rating system and requirements for students who wish to continue their training in preparation for the LEED Professional Accreditation exam.

This course will provide participants with the knowledge, skills and attitudes to market themselves to an employer and to effectively gain rewarding employment through resume writing support, interview practice, technical presentation practice and developed networking skills.  Canadian workplace culture and communications as well as the importance of soft skills will be emphasized. Participants will also explore the concept of Emotional Intelligence (EQ) and its relation to job search and career success via an introductory overview.

This course provides a structured approach to learning the principles and practical applications of digital logic used by computers, communication equipment and control systems. Connection of devices to input and output modules will be applied. Computer software will be used throughout the course for configuration, development, editing, documentation and monitoring of the application programs. Programming logic controllers to be studied are:  Allen-Bradley Compact Logix and SLC series, Omron CJ1M.

The goal of this course is to teach the student how to use SolidWorks automation software to build, and create drawings of, parametric models of parts and assemblies. Topics that are covered are: the user interface and basic menu commands; part design; assembly design and detail drawing creation.  

This course will introduce participants to the regulations pertaining to electrical power and distribution systems and corresponding safety standards for the installation and maintenance of electrical systems as specified in Canadian Electrical Safety Code. 

The course will include a brief overview of current Ontario Occupational Health and Safety legislation, WHMIS Regulations, and the Workplace Safety and Insurance Act. Participants will examine the application of the legislation and review the roles and responsibilities of government, employers, unions, and workers.

This course introduces you to REVIT MEP, a Building Information Modeling (BIM) program for people in the mechanical, electrical and plumbing engineering fields. On completion of the course, you will acquire profieciency with the software to assist you with the design aspect of your profession.

This course will explore all of the basic elements in a typical blueprint. The students will be required to be fluent in reading plans, sections and be able to determine the integrity of the combination of drawings while identifying discrepancies.
